February 17, 2017

Tired of cleaning out your drains every few months? Does it feel like you can’t go a month without having some sort of drain problem? Clogged drains are the sometimes inevitable result of daily use. All the hair, grease, and food products buildup over time and eventually cause the drain to clog.

However, there are steps you can take to slow the clogging of your drains. Here are some things you can do to prevent clogging as long as possible:

Tip 1:

Never pour fat or grease down the drain. The grease will buildup over time and it can be quite difficult to clean out. Instead, put grease in used cans and throw them away.

Tip 2:

Make a habit of cleaning bathroom drains on a regular basis. This is often accomplished simply by removing the stopper and pulling out all the hair and grease that have accumulated near the top of the drain.

Tip 3:

Pour boiling water down each drain. This will help dissolve any accumulated food particles, grease, and soap residue that may be accumulating in your pipes.

Tip 4:

Install a screen or strainer over the drain. This will catch food particles, hair, and other objects before they’re able to go down the drain. Be sure to clean the strainer on a regular basis.
